Though much of John's 25 years in Seattle has been creating ceramic art, his first passion has always been expressing himself through painting.

The past 5 years he has immersed himself into exploring how texture and color interacts on a 2 dimensional surface, sculpting the surface of wood panels and then combining acrylic paint and stains to create a unique encaustic look.

With the limitless source of inspiration from the Pacific Northwest, John's primary focus has been the landscape. The interplay of the horizon, sky, earth and water give him the feeling of being grounded in the fast paced world of today, bringing that experience of calm to those who view his work.

In John's newest work, the landscape is simplified into atmospheric contrasting bands, creating vibrant, ever changing abstractions, pushing the the envelope of medium and expression to the next level.
